I liked the engagement of the school in this article. There was a lot of background research and strong relationships with the student and his family. I enjoyed the way the chronicle was more than a diary, with multiple inputs.

This is one of those gifts that schools are sometimes given: an absolutely incredible story, nested with still other wonderful stories. The opportunity to write about this was well-seized and beautifully executed.

Peddie was blessed with a great story to cover, but more important — the writer did it justice. Even those with no connection to Peddie would keep reading this article because the adventure was told well. The first-person diary/blog entries at the end are a nice addition.

I love the originality and bravery of this article. It's not what you'd expect parents to want to hear from a school — that things can go wrong - but is honest. It also can't have been that easy to persuade people to take part — the openness of the interviews must have required a lot of skill.

This piece's subject matter and writing combine in such a way that I am too interested in the subject too much notice how it's written, and THAT, when what you really want to communicate is the story itself, is great writing.

Start with three very different alumni, present their profiles in a well-written, emotionally intelligent fashion and you have compelling content that demonstrates the broad ways "success" is defined at Phillips Academy.

Lots of schools profile alumni with something in common. This feature succeeds better than most for two reasons. 1) Though unified by the theme of innovation, the stories are very different, sustaining the reader's interest. 2) The writing is a cut above. Leads, in particular, grab the reader's attention.
