Early in my career, I learned that pre-production and proposal meetings were NOT the same. In fact, they are very different despite the potential overlap.

I learned this the hard way when I made a full pre-production plan that I spent hours on for a rather small project. The prospect then took my plan and said she will be going with someone cheaper. Ouch!

From there I began to understand the value of both parties having effective communications in the sales process.
