Things to Know Before You Sign Up
Awards Open Friday, September 6, 2019
Deadline for Entries Friday, October 25, 2019
Entry Processing [This is when we’re getting organized for you.]
Judging Begins Monday, November 25, 2019
Judges’ Scores Due Monday, December 16, 2019
Winners Announced Tuesday, January 7, 2020
You have 3 weeks to judge your category(ies) and some of that time is over the Thanksgiving break. We would prefer not to offer extensions past December 16, so if you think it will be tight for you, please take a pass, and we hope you'll join us another year.
How It Works
You score entries online on your own and at your pace. (Fuzzy slippers encouraged.) Your scores will be combined with other judges’ in your category to result in the winners.
Most entries will be digital except Viewbooks, Magazines and Enrollment Packages. If you’re judging one of those categories, hard copies will be mailed to you.
We’ll send you a Google doc scoring sheet that’s yours alone and is pre-populated with entries from the category(ies) you are judging. You’ll receive an email with the link to that sheet and detailed directions on Monday, November 25.
You must recuse yourself from voting on your school’s or company’s entry.
Please don’t ask friends and/or colleagues to judge with you. We asked you to judge for many reasons not the least of which is that we admire your brilliance.
FAQs. Please read.
What are the categories?
How many categories should I sign up for and what is the time commitment?
Judging time varies by category. Some are lengthy and take a large amount of time like VIEWBOOK/PROSPECTUS, ENROLLMENT/ADMISSIONS PACKAGE, or MAGAZINE, and we strongly suggest you judge only one category if you choose any of those. Some are visual and less time consuming like MAGAZINE COVER DESIGN or PHOTOGRAPHY and those could be combined with something else if you wanted to judge more than one category. Use your best judgement. We will do the same when we assign categories, knowing how many entries are in each category and the category's judging complexity.
Will I get the category I want?
Judges are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with preference going to the previous year's judges. Almost everyone wants to judge Viewbook/Prospectus, Enrollment/Admissions Package, and Magazines, so those are hard to get into.
When will I know which category I'm judging?
You'll get your assignment(s) when you receive your sheet(s) on Monday, November 25.
Can my school or company still enter the awards if I judge?
Big Yes! We encourage you to do so! You just have to recuse yourself from judging your own work. So if your work is in a category you're judging, you skip scoring that entry. We have a formula that takes this into account and will not penalize your entry. If you would like a simpler solution, choose a category to judge that you know you won't be entering.
How many judges are there for each category?
Up to 5, but maybe more for Categories 1, 2 and 15 depending on the number of entries.
